Film is primarily a visual medium, so when we can express something in our scripts through action, we are playing to a movie's strength. In this workshop, we focus on a particular kind of visual storytelling: Gestures. Participants will review a set of movie clips featuring signature character gestures, analyzing how they express emotion, how body language conveys status between characters, and how relationship dynamics can be read in the movement of a group. Then through a series of interactive exercises, we will move from interpretation to expression, providing everyone the opportunity to explore this aspect of action writing with their own original characters. Scott Myers and Mary Coleman are collaborating on this new workshop.
This panel is open to Semifinalists and above only.
